Tired of Waiting

I'm starting to really worry that I'm never going to find the right guy.
It's so frustrating because I'm ready to start "the rest of my life" and I want to do that with someone, but it's like I'm completely helpless to the situation, and all I can do is wait! I'm tired of waiting!
And it's not that I feel acute loneliness but I mean...I ate at a restaurant today by myself, because I just didn't have anyone to go with.
((Sigh))
Don't get me wrong, I like being by myself most of the time, and I enjoyed sitting at the bar, reading my book, and eating my fish tacos, but I wish I at least had the option of having someone's company. And pretty soon I'm not going to be considered ripe and young anymore. I'll be middle aged, and all the good guys will be taken by all the 22 year old girls.
Tonight at work, I was practically called a cougar by a 21 year old guy I work with. He said that cougars are between 30 and 50 (which is SOO NOT true, but still). He obviously doesn't know how old I am or he might not have said that, but I'm going to be 27 in a month. A MONTH! And I'm no closer to finding the right guy than I was 10 years ago. I'm afraid I've gotten too comfortable with being single.
What am I doing wrong? Or what am I not doing that I should be doing??
Maybe I should start going to some sporting events. As if I have the time...
((Sigh))

well, chances are youre not going to find a guy at the bar. and since that seems to be where you spend most of your time when you aren't in school... have you thought of online dating? you're still young, 27 is NOT old. relax. maybe join a sports team? like an intramural team or use meetup.com, or online dating. or look at the guys at school. i know, i know, theyre probably "too artsy" but sometimes someone you didnt think you'd go for ends up being the one guy you end up with. sometimes the type of guy you go for is the wrong type and you need to open up to other possible guys.

and the 21yo douchebag from work? cougars are NOT 30. you are not an old hen, so relax and go enjoy the sun chicago has managed to get for a whole day... :)

I agree with A, total douchebag...I think 27 is prime time to find a guy, you've had all the bad experiences and have an idea on what you want and don't want in a guy, your more mature and understand relationships are a lot of work...perfect time to start looking for a serious relationship...starting out as friends is always a good foundation so look for a guy who has similar interest and goals and is fun to be around, someone you feel comfortable with...good luck. I think you will find someone when you least expect it.

i feel your pain peyton, i just turned 28 last month (and i know i am NOT old, so you def are not) and i am in the same boat. i often wonder what i am doing wrong but i have to remind myself that not only do good things come to those who wait, but also that when the time is right, i will find someone. but again, it's frustrating and i am tired of waiting as well. if i find a good way to meet someone, i will let you know and please do the same! keep your head up :)

I agree with the option of online dating. I kind of feel as if I'm in the same boat as you where I'm thinking I'm FINALLY ready to be in that all-important relationship and now it's like I can't find anyone to save my life. Either way the only advice I can give is try not to worry too much because you are still very young in the grand scheme of things, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I will be 28 next month and I am single. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm a pretty good catch. However, the sea of love is not always an easy one to maneuver, even when you are a good catch. Even though it can be daunting at times, and lonely, keep your head up.
